Walkable communities promote health, foster a sense of connection and community among residents, and provide an overall sense of place and belonging that helps make a neighborhood livable for people of all ages and lifestyles.
A Walk Audit is a simple walk through a specific area using a checklist to identify issues that make walking, riding a bicycle, or driving unsafe or uncomfortable. The issues will be documented, prioritized, and submitted to the City of Tulsa for repair or improvement.

69 people were killed on Tulsa streets in 2021
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people under 40 in Tulsa County.
In the words of Jennifer Homendy, chair of the NTSB, “We are less safe on our roads now, and we are going in the wrong direction.”
The NTSB recommends a Safe System approach to traffic safety. Much like OSHA’s approach to safety in the workplace, the Safe System approach aims to eliminate fatal & serious injuries for all road users.
Safety is an ethical imperative of the designers and owners of the transportation system.
Tulsa Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) has taken the lead in conducting Walk Audits of the most dangerous intersections in Tulsa. We ask City Councilors, neighborhood associations, and community service agencies to join us in this life saving effort.
The findings of each walk audit are documented, prioritized, and shared with the staff at the City of Tulsa. The findings and periodic updates are recorded in a document for each location. The links below will be updated after each walk audit is completed.

Councilors McKee and Patrick presented a proclamation to the Tulsa Bicycle / Pedestrian Advisory Committee in honor of the day. The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, for 25 years, the World Day of Remembrance has been dedicated to remembering the many millions of road traffic victims by raising awareness of those who have been killed and seriously injured on roads across the world; and
WHEREAS, this global event seeks to acknowledge the crucial work of emergency services, to advocate for better support for road traffic victims and families, to draw attention to the minimal legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries, and to promote evidence-based actions to prevent and eventually stop further road traffic deaths and injuries; and
WHEREAS, this year, the World Day of Remembrance spotlights the reduction of traffic speeds, which has the potential to prevent deaths and injuries, in particular for the most vulnerable road users; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tulsa recognizes opportunities to improve safety for road users and is motivated to make the city more pedestrian and bicyclist friendly; and
WHEREAS, Tulsa encourages walking, bicycling, riding electric scooters, using public transit and driving, please join us in making Tulsa a community that provides safer and more convenient transportation options to all;
NOW, THEREFORE WE, the Tulsa City Council, do hereby proclaim November 21st, 2021, as World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
Anyone can perform a walk audit, but a small group makes it even better. Neighborhood associations, clubs, community service organizations, and individuals can perform a walk audit.
